This research is based on the premise that infrastructure is both a material and conceptual fact of late 20th-century contemporary society. Within this context, the architectural project is reconsidered according to infrastructural logics, transcending its physical dimensions and generating new ways of thinking about and producing architecture, without necessarily being tied to a specific program, scale, or form. This results in a particular generation of architectural practices and works that alter the systems of relationships with people and context. The thesis proposes that the introduction of the infrastructural condition in architecture is a consequence of a disciplinary shift towards a pragmatic practice characterized by a confrontation with reality and a distancing from theory. For this reason, pragmatism is framed and characterized both discursively and instrumentally, with the aim of revealing its relationship to infrastructural thinking in architectural design.
