The ‘conventional school’ has served us well for many years. There are school buildings with magnificent architecture, but they owe their existence to educational theories from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The most recent research in pedagogy is modifying behaviors within the school and the classroom. The recent implementation of pedagogical systems based on self-learning is changing the teacher-student relationships, and with it, the architecture of the school and the classroom.
Finland is a good example of this. The country became a global reference for its good results in PISA. Despite this, they continue to review and modify the academic curriculum to adapt it to the changing needs and capabilities suitable for the 21st century and the current information society in which we live.
